Cinco de Mayo Celebration

I cannot believe it’s May. Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner and it’s officially spring (my favorite time of year). It’s also the month we got married. Lots to celebrate in the Westrick household for sure. Do you have any plans to celebrate on Sunday?

I’ve remembered celebrating Cinco de Mayo for many years in NYC, but I know very little about why. The holiday is celebrated in the United States and only regionally in Mexico. It originated in the American Mexican communities in the American West to commemorate democracy during the first years of the Civil War and ultimately became a day to celebrate Mexican pride.

The Westricks’ favorite food happens to be Mexican. While Scott has his California roots, I am not sure where I developed this deep love. It started really early in life when Chi Chis was my restaurant of choice. Don’t judge. It’s all I knew! Scott and I frequently make cadillac margaritas during the summer and this is a great time to kick start the season. Well, in honor of the upcoming holiday and my favorite summer cocktail, here are some margarita recipes to try.
